Police close in on wanted man Zlatko Sikorsky

A MAN wanted over the murder of a teen whose body was dumped in a barrel is believed to be holed-up in a Sunshine Coast unit and making demands to police who have swarmed the area.

Specialist police are on scene and officers have set up exclusion zones at Alexandra Headlands.

They believe he is alone in the unit, located on Juan St. The Special Emergency Response Team is on the scene.

Police are negotiating with Sikorsky and have blocked streets and declared an emergency situation under the Public Safety Preservation Act.

An eye witness told The Courier-Mail that he could hear a man inside a neighbouring unit making demands.

“He hasn’t walked outside to the balcony, I can clearly hear him, he wants to speak to his girlfriend and father,” the witness said.

“I believe he’s on the phone to a negotiator.”

Footage shows police swarming on a unit complex.

Nine News reports the man in the unit was heard saying he “will shoot if they come near”.

A resident told The Courier-Mail that a man, believed to be Sikorsky, was holed-up at Headland Gardens on Juan Street.

Headland Gardens is a block of holiday apartments that offers “spacious resort-style holiday complexes”, featuring 27 self contained units.

Some residents have taken to social media to share video from the scene.

Police earlier set up an exclusion zone in the area.

“The declaration was made around 3.25pm for Juan Street and is bounded by Alex Parade to the north, Mary Street to the west, Mayfield Street to the east and William Street to the south,” police said in a statement.

“Residents located inside the declared area are asked to remain indoors and members of the public are asked to avoid the area.

“The man is believed to be alone inside the unit.”

Sikorsky has been on the run since Wednesday, when the body of a teenage girl was discovered in a barrel in the back of a black ute.

Police investigating the disappearance of 16-year-old Larissa Beilby had attended a property at Buccan Wednesday afternoon, before it’s believed Sikorsky left the property in the ute.

The body has not been identified.
