Remains believed to be human found on Mid North Coast: police - The Sydney Morning Herald

Remains believed to be human have been found by a crew from the Rural Fire Service in bushland on the NSW Mid North Coast.

Emergency services were called to a small fire in the Yarratt State Forest,  north of Taree, about 6.10am on Thursday, NSW Police said.

After extinguishing the fire, they found remains believed to have been those of an adult.

It is understood that the bones pre-date the fire.

A crime scene was established, with detectives from the State Crime Command's homicide squad involved in the investigation.

A post-mortem examination will be conducted in an attempt to confirm the identity and cause of death.
