Oxford Street bus driver sprayed in face with chemical: police - The Sydney Morning Herald

Police are searching for a man after a 41-year-old Sydney bus driver was allegedly sprayed in the face with a chemical on Thursday.

The alleged assault occurred in Surry Hills about 10.35pm after the passenger was told he could not get on the bus, which was at capacity.

The passenger then allegedly abused the driver before spraying the chemical, which police believe was capsicum spray.

The bus was on Route 392 bound for the city and was travelling down Oxford Street before making a stop between Flinders and Crown streets.

Another passenger called emergency services who treated the driver at the scene. The driver experienced short-term pain, but then recovered, police said.

No passengers were injured.

Surry Hills Police Area Command is appealing for public assistance to find the man.
