TV actress and sister fighting for life after crash

Television actress Jessica Falkholt and her sister Annabelle are fighting for their lives after the Princes Highway crash that tragically killed three people including their parents.

Lars Falkholt, 69, and wife Vivian, 60, died when their car collided with another vehicle on the New South Wales south coast on Boxing Day, with their daughters taken to St George and Liverpool hospitals in a critical condition.

Annabelle, 21, is still in a critical condition in Liverpool hospital while sister Jessica, 28, is at St George Hospital.

The other person killed in the crash on Tuesday was an Ulladulla man aged 50.

Jessica is credited with roles on Underbelly: Badness, a number of prominent stage plays and most recently Home and Away.

Relatives have rushed to the bedsides of the two sisters to offer their support.

"Sadly those family members are travelling to the St George and Liverpool Hospitals to engage with their loved ones who are very much in a critical condition at this time," Highway Patrol Chief Inspector Phil Brooks told reporters on Wednesday.

With New Year's just around the corner, police have urged motorists to not be complacent on the roads.

The south coast crash has brought the death toll to 21 since December 15, which marked the start of Operation Safe Arrival, the state's Christmas and New Year road safety campaign.

Seven people were killed during the same period last year.

“This Christmas and New Year period is meant to be a time of happiness and to spend time with family and sadly for many, this has resulted in tragedy," Chief Inspector Brooks said.

"Out of these 21 deaths, 11 road users have been involved in matters where their vehicles have simply left the road and crashed into a telegraph pole or a tree.

“There are more cars on our roads and sadly, personal responsibility is lacking many road users. The impact of road trauma is significant.

"Out of 433,000 random breath tests, 739 drivers are facing the courts in the New Year for a range of drink-driving charges putting themselves, their passengers and other road users at great risk right throughout the NSW road network."
