Queensland Police share shocking footage of speeding P-plater

A 20-year-old P-plater has been of stripped of their licence for six months after allegedly driving at more than 100km per hour over the speed limit.

Queensland Police say they clocked the new driver allegedly travelling at 215 km per hour in a 110 km per hour zone on the Flinders Highway at Torrens Creek, west of Townsville just after 10am on Thursday, December 28.

The blue Holden Commodore owner was given an automatic six-month driving ban along with a $1,177 fine and eight demerit points on their licence.

Police shared footage of the incident on their Facebook page to encourage drivers to slow down and take care on the roads.

They say they more than 21,000 speeding motorists were detected on Queensland's roads in the first week of the Christmas break, with speed being a contributing factor in nearly one in five fatal crashes.
