10yo boy, father shot in attempted armed robbery south of Brisbane

Police establish crime scene after boy shot in attempted armed robbery

Police are hunting for two men who shot a 10-year-old boy and his father during a home invasion south of Brisbane overnight.

The men entered the house in Ammons Street at Browns Plains about 8:00pm on Tuesday armed with a machete and gun, police said, during what has been described as an attempted armed robbery.

The gun was fired during an altercation and the boy was shot in the shoulder and his 31-year-old father sustained a gunshot graze to the stomach.

Both were taken to nearby hospitals with non-life threatening injuries.

Police said it was unclear if the offenders were known to the family.

A firearm was recovered by police who are continuing to search for the two offenders.

A police dog and its handler were also injured while tracking the offenders, with the police dog sustaining a torn leg muscle after being bitten by a dog at the home.

The police officer had lacerations from trying to separate the two animals.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has any information has been urged to contact police.
