A motorcyclist on his “L” plates was killed today near Sydney’s CBD after being hit by a white truck in Ultimo.
NSW Police say the truck driver failed to stop. The accident happened about 2.40pm on Abercrombie St, near Broadway.
The driver was later arrested by police in a nearby street.
The 32-year-old motorcyclist was pronounced dead after being taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in a critical condition.
“This dreadful incident. As a paramedic when you hear a motorcycle and truck accident has occurred, it’s just gut-wrenching,” NSW Ambulance duty operations manager Inspector Paul Delamont said.
“The patient’s injuries were extensive and paramedics had to work quickly at the scene – they want to get there as quickly as possible and do everything that can be done to help.”
“This is a terrible incident on our roads this afternoon – please be careful and look out for each other so we can avoid these tragedies.”
There is heavy traffic in the area, with two lanes closed on Broadway at Wattle St.
Citybound motorists can continue to access Wattle St via the slip road. Heavy traffic remains in the area.
Buses heading towards the Sydney CBD and school services are being diverted away from Broadway at Wattle St via local streets. No stops are being missed.
