Redfern, Sydney: Man charged with murder after fatal stabbing in unit - NEWS.com.au

A man has been charged following a fatal stabbing in inner Sydney in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Emergency workers were called to a unit on Morehead St in Redfern shortly before 1am.

Officers from South Sydney Police Area Command attended and found a 54-year-old man with a stab wound to his back.

He died at the scene despite NSW Ambulance paramedics’ attempts to save him.

At 6am, Strike Force Otama detectives arrested a 48-year-old man in the neighbouring suburb of Waterloo following an investigation into the knifing, NSW Police said in a statement.

He was taken to Mascot Police Station and charged later on Sunday with murder.

The man was refused bail by police and is due to appear in Central Local Court on Monday.

A crime scene was established and an investigation is underway.
