The fake Tahitian prince who stole $16 million from Queensland Health was deported to New Zealand on Thursday night after his release from prison.
Joel Morehu-Barlow was jailed in 2013 after pleading guilty to defrauding the government by channelling funds from a community program he controlled as a mid-level public servant to his own bank account.
The fraud allowed him to fund a luxurious lifestyle and pass himself off as a Tahitian prince with a riverside apartment in inner-city Brisbane, designer brand watches and knick knacks.

He was jailed for 14 years with a non-parole period of five years.
The Australian Border Force released pictures of Barlow on Thursday night, confirming that he had been “removed voluntarily from Australia to New Zealand, following the granting of parole by the Queensland Parole Board”.
“The Australian government has responsibility to protect the community from the risk of harm arising from foreign nationals who choose to engage in criminal activity, and as such Mr Morehu-Barlow’s visa was previously cancelled under s501 of the Migration Act (1958),” the ABF said in a statement.
“There are strong provisions under the Migration Act (1958) that allow the Minister to cancel a visa if the person is considered to not be of good character. A person can fail the character test for a number of reasons, including but not limited to where a non-citizen has a substantial criminal record.”
