Hannah Clarke murder: Family reveal ‘she sacrificed everything’ for kids - NEWS.com.au

The family of Hannah Clarke have revealed the horror abuse she received at the hands of her estranged husband before he killed her and their three children.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Nine’s A Current Affair, which will air tonight, Hannah’s parents Lloyd and Suzanne Clarke and her brother Nathaniel have given insight into her life and the lengths she went to protect her children from their father.

In the moving interview, host Tracey Grimshaw is visibly reduced to tears.

The 31-year-old mum and her children Laianah, 6, Aaliyah, 4, and Trey, 3, died on Wednesday after Rowan Baxter attacked them.

The family was setting out of the school run in the Brisbane suburb of Camp Hill when Baxter approached the car and sat in the passenger seat.

Baxter then set the car on fire, with a witness reporting Ms Clarke jumped out of the car yelling, “He’s poured petrol on me”.

The three children died at the scene, with their mother taken to hospital before succumbing to her injuries later that night.

Baxter was declared dead at the scene, reportedly dying from self-inflected injuries.

Ms Clarke’s mum, Suzanne, revealed that Baxter had spoken to his children the night before he murdered them.

“The night before he killed them, he was on the phone to the children,” she told the program.

Ms Clarke’s brother, Nathaniel, said his sister did everything she could for her kids.

“She sacrificed everything for them,” he said.

Details of the abuse the mum allegedly suffered at the hands of her husband has come to light in recent days.

Manja Whaley, one of Ms Clarke’s friends, revealed the mum confided in her about the abuse after she left her husband on December 5 last year.

“You confided in me about the family violence you had experienced for the past 10 years,” she wrote on Facebook, adding that at first Ms Clarke was “confused and told me that you had never thought of being in a domestic violent relationship as you explained ‘he never hit me’”.

“We talked about the different types of violence including financial abuse, sexual abuse, emotional abuse and you experienced all of them,” she said.

“I asked you if he had ever threatened to kill you or the children and you told me he had not but there was one thing he had said, really matter of fact, when you first got together 10 years ago and that was that, ‘He had told his ex-partner with whom he had a child, that if she was to leave him he would take the child and end his own life and that of the child.’ He never did but you told me that this comment has always stuck in your mind.”

In early January, Baxter was slapped with a domestic violence order by a Brisbane court for kidnapping one of their children and taking her interstate against Ms Clarke’s wishes.

The Clarke family have now shed even more light on Ms Clarke’s life with the man who murdered her and her children.

“Not all domestic abuse is physical,” Nathaniel told the program.

In Ms Clarke’s honour her family has decided to launch a campaign called ‘Small Steps for Hannah’ to help and raise awareness for any victims of emotional or physical abuse.
