It was "monumentally stupid" for a Commonwealth Bank lawyer to have allegedly started a blaze after throwing a lit firework into bushland at an inner-city park, his barrister has told a Supreme Court judge.
Justice Robert Hulme was told that the majority of the bank's legal team as well as Gilbert and Tobin law firm partner Lesley Sutton were in court to support Christopher Sun, 34, as he was bailed after being in custody for more than two months.
His lawyer, Joanna Gallagher, said it was conceded her client's alleged actions in Sydney Park, St Peters, on the night of November 14 were "the height of stupidity".
"The likelihood of him doing something as monumentally stupid again is almost nil," Ms Gallagher said during the bail application on Thursday.
The court was told that witnesses saw Mr Sun about 9.45pm that night shining a torch in the park in what Justice Hulme said was perceived to be an attempt to see if anyone was around.
