Man charged over 1995 alleged murder of Sydney business owner - The Age

The reward was increased to $1 million on Tuesday, and police renewed their public appeal for assistance.

Speaking with reporters on Tuesday, Detective Superintendent Danny Doherty said "it’s been 24 years since Mr Dastan was brutally murdered. He was a father, he ran a successful business and was a well respected member of the Turkish community".

"Earlier inquiries have been strengthened as a result of a case review and we are confident this $1 million reward may just be the motivation for someone who knows something to get in touch with us and lead to an arrest."

Mr Dastan's daughter, Yasemin Sevim, said her father's death "took a huge toll" on her mother and "we deserve answers, especially after waiting 24 years".

About 10pm on Wednesday, a 58-year-old Granville man was arrested at a hotel at Sydney Olympic Park. He was taken to Auburn police station and charged with murder.
