Police have seized enough cannabis plants to fill a 12-metre sea container during one of the biggest raids in West Australian history on a rural property north of Perth.
More than 7,000 plants were discovered growing in 14 commercial scale greenhouses on the 19-hectare property in Red Gully, near Gingin.
Police said the cannabis had a potential street value of more than $10 million, making the haul one of the biggest ever recorded in the state.
"The scale and sophistication of this operation was significant," Senior Sergeant Michael Rowson said.
"I've never seen anything like it. It's obviously linked to organised crime."
Farm was deserted at time of raid
Police said the greenhouses were in plain sight of the road and nothing had been done to conceal them.
"It wasn't hidden at all, you could see the structures from the road," Senior Sergeant Rowson said.
"We had no idea how big the scale was until we got onto the property."
Police would not say what led officers to the property but suspected the greenhouses had been set up for about three months.
No one was at the farm when officers carried out the raid and investigations are continuing to locate those responsible.
