Two dead, one arrested after shootings in Victoria and New South Wales

A man has been arrested after shootings in Victoria and New South Wales this afternoon that left two people, including an elderly woman, dead.

The body of the 82-year-old woman was found with a gunshot wound at a home at Snowy Avenue, Red Cliffs, in Victoria's north-west, about 12:30pm.

Red Cliffs is about 15 kilometres south of Mildura, in Victoria's Sunraysia region.

About an hour later, police in New South Wales said a shooting was reported on a property at Rufus, where one man was found dead.

They described it as a domestic-violence-related shooting.

Rufus is about 120 kilometres west of Red Cliffs on the New South Wales side of the Murray River.

A 58-year-man was found at a property near Lake Victoria about 3:00pm, with what Victoria Police said were self-inflicted injuries.

They said he was taken to a Victorian hospital in a critical condition under police guard.

Victoria Police believes all parties were known to each other, and said they were not looking for anyone else in relation to the incidents.
