Two dead after family shooting near Mildura

An elderly woman and another man are dead after a double family shooting near a small country town in Victoria's north.

Police and emergency services attended a property on Snowy Avenue in Red Cliffs, about 16 kilometres south of Mildura, after an 82-year-old woman was found with a fatal gunshot wound about 12.30pm on Tuesday.

Later in the afternoon, about 1.30pm, officers from NSW's Barrier Police District found a man dead at a NSW property on Rufus River Road, west of Mildura.

NSW police found a second 58-year-old man nearby, also suffering a gunshot wound.

He sustained what police believed were self-inflicted injuries and had been taken to a Victorian hospital in a critical condition under police guard, police said.
