A teenage girl is dead and her supervising driver is in a critical condition in hospital after the car the L-plater was learning to drive in collided with another vehicle in Sydney's north-west late this afternoon.
The Learner driver was travelling in a Suzuki Swift in Glenorie, north of Dural, when her car collided with a Falcon sedan at the intersection of Old Northern Road and Cockatoo Place.
Seven ambulances and a medical helicopter rushed to the crash site, but paramedics were unable to save the girl, who died at the scene.
The man who was supervising her, believed to be aged in his 50s, sustained multiple injuries in the crash and has been taken to Royal North Shore Hospital in a critical condition.
The driver of the other vehicle is not believed to have been seriously injured, police report, and has been taken to Westmead Hospital for mandatory testing.
Old Northern Road is closed in both directions and is expected to be closed for some time.
No diversions are in place and motorists are being advised to avoid the area.
