Come in spinner

After the day's solemn duties have been performed, the secondary Anzac Day tradition kicks in – a game or few of two-up, which is illegal on every other day of the year.

If your local pub doesn't have two-up going, you should probably get a new local. But you'll find some of the biggest and best games of two-up being played at the following spots:

CBD and inner suburbs: Head to The Rocks for two-up in the streets, with The Glenmore and The Argyle open from 8am, and The Australian Heritage Hotel from 7am; The Dolphin claims to have the biggest two-up ring in Surry Hills (from 10am); The Vic in Enmore will combine two-up with live music, Newtown's Bank Hotel has the game called by drag queen Tora Hymen, and in Balmain Dick's Hotel is a favourite (from midday).

Maxi Shield has run a drag queen two-up game on Anzac Day since 2002.

East: Both The Royal in Paddington and the Watsons Bay Hotel are claiming to have the biggest two-up arena in the Eastern Suburbs.

West: Revesby Workers' Club has one of the biggest games in the west (from midday); or you could try your luck at Milperra's The Mill Hotel (1pm), Canterbury Hurlstone Park RSL (midday),

North: Harbord Diggers boasts the biggest two-up game in the Southern Hemisphere – but this year you'll need to be a member (or their one guest). Manly Wharf Hotel has its game on the jetty.

South: You'll find two-up at the Kingsford Hotel, Taren Point Hotel and Miranda Hotel from midday.

Watching from home?

ABC, Seven and Nine all have dedicated Anzac Day coverage.

ABC broadcasts the dawn service from Sydney from 4.30am, followed by the dawn service in Canberra at 5.30am. This will be followed from 9am with live local coverage of marches in all state capital cities. At 12.30pm, the Gallipoli dawn service will air from Anzac Cove in Turkey. The dawn service at Villers-Bretonneux in France will be broadcast live from 1.30pm.

Seven will broadcast live from the Currumbin dawn service at 4:45am. Nine will broadcast live from the Sydney dawn service at 4.30am, and cross to Gallipoli and France for a special news bulletin when those services begin.

Getting around

Due to the marches and other events, there will be significant road closures across the city for most of the day, especially around the CBD, which drivers are urged to avoid unless necessary.

Major road closures in the Sydney CBD include parts of George Street, Castlereagh Street, Pitt Street, King Street and Elizabeth Street. All roads will be reopened by 3pm.

Special event clearways are also in place throughout the Sydney CBD.

There will be extra early morning transport services, and public transport is free for members and ex-members of the Australian Defence Force, and their families.
