L plate driver dead, supervisor critical after crash in Sydney's north

A teenage girl is dead after the car she was learning to drive in collided with another vehicle in Sydney's north-west.

Shortly before 5pm on Friday, the L plater's Suzuki Swift collided with a Ford Falcon sedan at the intersection of Old Northern Road and Cockatoo Place in Glenorie.

The teenage driver died at the scene. Her supervisor, a man believed to be in his 50s, was rushed to Royal North Shore Hospital in a critical condition with multiple injuries.

The driver of the second vehicle was taken to Westmead Hospital for mandatory testing, but is not believed to have been injured.

Police are urging drivers to avoid Old Northern Road, which is blocked in both directions with no diversions in place.
