QLD paramedic dies responding to emergency in Benholme, Mackay - NEWS.com.au

A paramedic, rushing to save someone else’s life, has tragically lost his after ambulance crashed into a tree near Mackay, Queensland.

The 32-year-old paramedic was responding to a code one emergency under lights and sirens in the north of the state when his car left the road this morning.

The paramedic was the only one in the ambulance when the vehicle smashed into a tree at Benholme, west of Mackay, this morning.

Other paramedics rushed to the scene to try and revive the 32-year-old but he was unable to be saved.

Speaking to news.com.au, a Queensland Ambulance Service spokesman confirmed the 32-year-old was on duty when he crashed.

The spokesman described the paramedic’s death as a cruel tragedy.

“He was going to help someone that was in need...it’s very sad,” he said.

Police also attended the scene and confirmed a forensic crash unit was investigating the incident.

Emergency services will make a statement on the man’s tragic death later today.
