Jason Costigan suspended from Queensland Liberal National Party - NEWS.com.au

The leader of Queensland’s Liberal National Party has lashed out against one of her own claiming MP Jason Costigan doesn’t have the values to be part of the LNP.

Deb Frecklington on Wednesday said Whitsundays MP Jason Costigan had “failed” to meet the high standards of the LNP after he was suspended following a complaint.

LNP acting president David Hutchinson said the committee suspended Mr Costigan on Wednesday afternoon after investigating the complaint.

According to media reports the former rugby league commentator was suspended following a harassment claim.

“Mr Costigan doesn’t have the morals and the values to be part of my team,” the opposition leader said in a statement on Wednesday.

“I demanded strong action from the LNP in relation to the complaint against Mr Costigan and the LNP has acted strongly.”

Mr Costigan will be suspended until the LNP state executive meets on February 1.

“I do not intend to canvas the detail of the complaint. The decision to suspend the party membership of a sitting MP is a very serious one, and has not been taken lightly,” Mr Hutchinson said in a statement on Wednesday.

Mr Costigan has courted controversy both inside and outside parliament in recent years including angering Deputy Premier Jackie Trad after he posted a photo of himself on a beach with two scantily clad women in support of World Bikini Day, the Courier-Mail reported.

Mr Costigan denies the allegations and is reportedly going to take legal action.

“I am going to contest the allegations. This is a stitch-up of the highest order,” he told the Courier Mail.
