POLICE are investigating the grim discovery of a man’s body on a farm northwest of Melbourne after it was found laying next to a rifle.
A crime scene has been established and Homicide Squad detectives are investigating.
Police said the body was on the Sunbury Road property in Bulla just after midday and the exact circumstances surrounding the man’s death were still to be determined.
Footage from a news helicopter showed a rifle lying on the ground near the body.
Locals told 9 News they saw three men fighting near the crime scene.
“There are possible rumours it’s linked to bikies and offsiders,” Bill Yakan said.
Several distressed people reportedly arrived at the scene a short time later.
Forensic police combed the area and surrounding bushland with SES volunteers.
No arrests have been made.
