Body in the bin identified as man missing for 17 years

Mr Christianos, who was sometimes also known as John Christie, had been living at Gaynor Lodge, on Warrigal Road in East Bentleigh when he vanished.

After he went missing, there was no activity detected on his bank account, Centrelink account, telephone records, Medicare account or car registration.

He had left all his possessions at home and had made no preparations to leave. His car and motorcycle have never been found.

He would have turned 57 on September 1 this year.

In May 2011, Coroner Kim Parkinson found Mr Christianos was most likely dead, but could not ascertain the cause.

The inquest found that the death most likely occurred on or around June 11 in 2011 at an unknown location.

Mr Christianos was the eldest of three children and was described as "psychologically fragile" by the Coroner.

"[He] reported to police and ambulance officers shortly prior to his disappearance that he suffered bipolar manic disorder," the inquest finding reads.

"He had some significant history of police contact and criminal history for drug offences and an alleged history of violence. He was a troubled man and had not infrequent contact with police."

Mr Christianos was also involved in a number of altercations with other residents while he lived at Gaynor Lodge in East Bentleigh.

He was last seen by witnesses who said he left Gaynor Lodge on June 11 in 2001.

The investigation into how Mr Christianos died is ongoing.
