Former Logan Coaches driver says mother wasn't at stop when five-year-old was left on bus

A SACKED driver has spoken out about the day a five-year-old schoolgirl was left on his bus, claiming the girl’s mother was not waiting at the stop to pick her up.

Former Logan Coaches driver Ross Belsham, who has been driving buses for half a decade, told Nine News he had lost his job after the incident.

A massive police search was sparked last week when Alyssa Jade New failed to get off the bus on her way home from Jimboomba State School.

She was later found on board the bus at the Logan Coaches depot. Police said she had fallen asleep out of the view of driver.

The girl’s mother, Bobbie Langdon, raised the alarm on Facebook and the following day posted asking for donations.

She claimed to have been waiting at the bus stop, but Mr Belsham told Nine News the girl’s mother wasn’t there on the first day of school.

Mr Belsham said he was not the only person at fault, claiming the duty teacher was also not present to check students entering the bus. He also spoke about not seeing Mrs Langdon at her daughter’s stop.

“There [was] nobody there, so I got out of the bus and went to have a look and there was nobody there,” he said.

Mr Belsham said he did not know Alyssa was on the bus and that when the alarm was raised, fellow staff at the depot failed to check the vehicle.

“Office staff were 50 metres away and didn’t check the bus,” he said.

Ms Langdon declined to comment.
