A Queensland bus driver has been sacked after a five-year-old girl was left alone and trapped on the vehicle for several hours, sparking a major search.
Bobbie Langdon raised the alarm with police about 4.40pm on January 22, believing her daughter, Alyssa, had failed to catch the bus home from her first day of year one at Jimboomba State School.
But it turned out Alyssa had been on board the whole time, having fallen asleep near the back of the bus.
Ross Belsham, 79, acknowledges that he made a mistake but said he believes he was not the only person at fault.

Mr Belsham said staff at the Jimboomba State School did not check off her name, while alleging her mother Bobbie Langdon was not at the bus stop to collect her, contradicting information she gave police.
Ms Langdon threatened Logan Coaches to expect a letter from her lawyer after Alyssa was found "petrified and crying, banging on the school bus doors to get out" about 7.10pm that evening.
Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk lashed the bus company involved in the incident, Logan Coaches, for not completing a compulsory search of the bus at the end of the school run.

"It appears that the driver did not do the end of run sweep as drivers are supposed to with those bus companies," Ms Palaszczuk told reporters.
"It's a timely reminder for the bus companies to ensure that that is done."
Ms Palaszczuk said it would be "every parent's worst nightmare" to have their child not come home from school.
