UPDATE 3.15pm: Police have confirmed that a man has died at the scene of a single car crash this afternoon on the Old Melbourne Road near Millbrook. A police spokesperson said it is believed the vehicle left the road near the intersection of Old Melbourne Road and Ryans Road. The male driver is yet to be identified while the cause of the crash is still being investigated. The road remains closed in both directions and drivers are urged to seek alternative routes. UPDATE 2.45pm: THE Old Melbourne Road is blocked in both directions near Gordon after a serious crash this afternoon. It is understood a driver in a utility has crashed into a tree near Ryans Road. Police, ambulance and fire services are on the scene and are working to free the driver, believed to be the only person in the car. It is understood that the road was mostly dry at the time of the crash and the accident has happened near a bend, but it is believed that it was not at a dangerous corner where the crash took place. EARLIER: EMERGENCY services are on the scene of single car accident on the Old Melbourne Road at the corner of Ryans Road, near Millbrook. There are reports that the car went into a tree about 1.40pm. It has been reported that there is smoke coming from the car. It is believed that at least one occupant is trapped in the vehicle with emergency services urging motorists to avoid the area if possible. The condition of the occupants is unknown.
