Woman’s body found on Little Bourke Street, Chinatown - Herald Sun

Homicide Squad detectives have arrested a 32-year-old man following the discovery of a woman’s body in Melbourne’s CBD this morning.

The woman’s body was located at the intersection of Bourke St and Celestial Avenue just after 6.30am.

A postmortem is being conducted this evening to determine her cause of death however detectives are currently treating the death as suspicious.

DRUGS-ON-WHEELS ACCUSED GANG BUSTED

Detectives arrested the Melbourne man this afternoon. He is now in custody, assisting investigators with their inquiries.

Police cordoned off Little Bourke St between Russell and Swanston streets after a passerby made the grisly discovery.

Traders were refused entry to some businesses within the police cordon.

Senior Sergeant Trish Duke said the woman was believed to be aged 33 but her identity has not been made public.

Police escorted traders into their shops to review CCTV footage from overnight as forensics officers were seen taking photographs in Celestial Ave.

A passerby said the incident was concerning.

“It’s shocking news. Something no one was expecting,” he said.

Paramedics were called this morning but the woman could not be saved.

Police are yet to determine the cause of death.

Little Bourke St remains closed between Swanston and Russell streets.
