Woman knocked unconscious at anti-Adani protest - SBS News

An anti-Adani protester travelling as part of a convoy with former Greens leader Bob Brown has been hit by a man on a horse in Clermont in far North Queensland.

The woman, aged in her 60's, was taken to hospital after ambulances attended the scene.

She is from NSW and had been travelling with the convoy which received a hostile welcome in the pro-coal mining town on Saturday.

Bob Brown said there was a loud "yahoo" as the man rode between the crowd and the stage, knocking the woman over against the gates.

"He was yelling and waving his hat."

A man is in custody after reportedly fleeing the scene into nearby bushland.

Mr Brown called on the behaviour to be condemned and said it was that of right wing politicians, some of whom attended the pro-Adani rally on Saturday.

Witnesses said the man rode into the showground where a peaceful protest had been taking place.

"We were just enjoying the show and all of a sudden a man on a big spirited horse just appeared," witness Liz Cameron said.

"He galloped around the front of the stage in amongst the kids playing and pushed the gate into the person and it knocked them over."

Isaac Region Mayor Anne Baker also criticised the actions of the horse rider.

"This act is deplorable and I condemn it in the strongest of terms," she said. "This rogue act by an individual does not reflect the community of Clermont or the wider Isaac region."

Mayor Baker said protesters for and against the Adani mine had been warned against any disruptive behaviour.

"This rider has ignored the shared expectation for an environment of mutual respect. I expect they will face the full force of the law for their actions and the injury caused."

Clermont is the closest town to the proposed Adani Carmichael mine.

The Stop Adani convoy is due to leave Clermont tomorrow, bound for Canberra.

Residents of Clermont say the Adani mine will create much needed jobs.
