UPDATE at 4:15 PM | TWO men who died while trying to save a man from drowning at a beach in Victoria were father and son, it has been revealed.
The 32-year-old and 71-year-old volunteer surf live savers drowned after being thrown from their rescue boat when it flipped in rough surf at Port Campbell, 230km southwest of Melbourne, on Easter Sunday.
They were trying to rescue a man who has been swept off a rock ledge by a wave while taking photos about 10.40am.

The tragedy has sent shockwaves through the community.
Warrnambool Senior Sergeant Brett Jackson told the Herald Sun the men were both experienced and dedicated volunteers from the Port Campbell Surf Life Saving Club.
“It’s a very tight knit community Port Campbell and unfortunately this is a tragic set of circumstances,” he said.
“Both men were involved heavily in the community.”
A third rescuer who was also thrown from the boat and the man they were trying to save were winched out of the ocean by a rescue helicopter.
The rescuer was airlifted to hospital in a serious condition, while the other man was transported by ambulance in a stable condition.

The tragedy unfolded at Port Campbell, 230km southwest of Melbourne, about 10.40am on Easter Sunday.
Police said the rescuers were trying to save a man from drowning when their rescue boat flipped in rough surf.
“A man was taking photos from a rock ledge when he has been swept into the water by a large wave at the mouth of the Sherbrook River,” Victoria Police said in a statement.
“A rescue boat was deployed to assist the man, which has flipped in the surf and thrown the three occupants into the water.”
One of three rescuers and the man who had been swept off the rocks were winched to safety by an emergency helicopter, police said.
The rescuer was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries, while the other man was transported by ambulance in a stable condition.
Sadly, the bodies of the remaining two male rescuers were located in the water a short time later.
Police said the two men could not be revived and were both declared deceased at the scene.
A report will be prepare for the information of the Coroner.
