Police officer suffers critical head injuries after being struck by stolen car

A police officer is in a critical condition in hospital with head injuries after he was hit by a stolen car at Booval, west of Brisbane, authorities say.

The male constable suffered head injuries after being struck on Brisbane Road at Booval about 5.00am.

The Queensland Ambulance Service said he was taken to the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane in a critical condition.

Officers said a teenage boy and girl are in custody and assisting police with their inquiries.

Police later found the stolen vehicle on Vowels Street.

Brisbane Road remains closed at Booval and drivers are being urged to avoid the area.

Police said there were traffic diversions via McGrath Lane and Stafford Street.

Investigations are continuing.
