Father of brothers alleged to have attacked Victoria Police Assistant Commissioner charged over Facebook posts - ABC News

The father of two men accused of bashing a senior Victoria Police officer has been charged over a series of allegedly threatening social media posts.

Key points:

  • The posts on Jared Pilgren's Facebook page have been removed
  • He is charged with intimidating an officer and using a telecommunication device to menace
  • Mr Pilgren's two sons have been charged with assaulting police Assistant Commissioner Chris O'Neill

Jared Pilgren, 49, of Southbank, is facing charges of using a telecommunication device to menace, intimidation of a law enforcement officer and recording court proceedings.

The charges followed a number of Facebook posts on Mr Pilgren's account which have since been removed.

In the posts Chris O'Neill, a Victoria Police Assistant Commissioner, who was bashed on Saturday, was called a "maggot dog".

"I got zero respect and you know why. F*** the police and your crew ya swine. You attack mine, god help yours," the post said.

"Cops want war let's start gang land killings again."

Mr Pilgren's two sons, Jay Stephens, 20 and Isaiah Stephens, 18, are each facing multiple charges, including intentionally causing serious injury, for allegedly attacking Assistant Commissioner O'Neill on Saturday.

He spent two days in hospital recovering from broken ribs and facial injuries.

The pair appeared on court on Tuesday and the court heard the men were drunk while on a train from Southern Cross station when they were ejected at Heyington Station for vomiting and anti-social behaviour.

Assistant Commissioner O'Neill was on the train platform and followed the men to the grounds of St Kevin's College in Toorak where they confronted him, the court was told on Tuesday.
