Residents to prepare to leave homes - NEWS.com.au

Residents in the path of another Queensland bushfire have been ordered to follow survival plans or prepare to leave their homes south of Rockhampton.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services have advised the fire has travelled through the town of Mount Larcom.

The fire is burning southeast along the Gladstone Mount Larcom Road and both sides of the Bruce Highway, towards Yarwun.

Crews are working to contain the fire.

Residents are advised they should be ready to follow survival plans or be ready to leave as the situation could worsen quickly.

Those who have already left Mount Larcom cannot return yet as the Bruce Highway remains closed.

Fire crews had been monitoring the blaze at Ambrose, west of Gladstone, as conditions steadily deteriorated throughout Wednesday and shifted towards Mount Larcom, with residents then ordered to leave.

Temperatures soared above 40 degrees and reported wind gusts were in excess of 50km/h.

Almost 140 fires are burning across the state, including a massive blaze in the Deepwater region between Gladstone and Bundaberg that's sent 1500 people fleeing.

More than 8000 people have been told to evacuate from Gracemere to Rockhampton.
