A five-year-old boy is safe after he was allegedly abducted by an unknown woman outside his Preston home.
It is believed the boy was in his mother's car in the driveway of the home when he was taken by the woman about 8.30am on Wednesday morning.
His mother had gone back into the house briefly and when she returned the boy was out the front of a neighbouring house with an unknown woman, police said.
The mother then grabbed her son and alerted police.
A short time later, police arrested a 33-year-old West Heidelberg woman at a nearby shopping centre on Plenty Road, Victoria Police spokesman Luke Zammit said.
She is currently assisting police with their inquiries.
The child was not injured during the incident.
