A man has fronted court charged with murdering his 69-year-old mother after her body was found in south-west Melbourne on Friday.
The 38-year-old fronted Melbourne Magistrates' Court this afternoon, where he was remanded in custody.
The mother and son lived together at the Werribee home, where her body was found with multiple stab wounds at around 7.30am on Friday morning.
Homicide Squad Detective Senior Sergeant Pixie Fuhrmeister told 9NEWS that there were "ongoing domestic issues" between the pair.
"We believe that this is a progression of this," she said.
Homicide Squad detectives were today conducting a line search on Black Forest Road in Wyndham Vale in the hunt for the murder weapon, after a silver Kia SUV belonging to the accused was seen driving there on Thursday afternoon.

Detective Senior Sergeant Fuhrmeister said the search was concentrated on a creek part way along Black Forest Road, where the Kia SUV was seen parked on Thursday.
Police are calling for any witnesses who were in the area on Thursday afternoon at around 1.30pm.
Two teenagers who were door-knocking in the area on Thursday afternoon are also being sought by investigators.
The boy was wearing dark-coloured long sleeve top and shorts, a cap and shoes, while the girl is described as having long hair and was wearing a dark-coloured long sleeve top and pants.
They're not believed to be connected to the woman's death, but police think the boy and girl may have seen something.
