A Fire and Rescue NSW crew have released footage of the terrifying moment their truck was overrun by flames.

The fireys, from the Central Coast's Station 509 in Wyoming, were circled by a wall of fire south of Nowra and were trapped inside their vehicle as the fire front passed.

The minute-long clip shows the firetruck encircled by flames within mere seconds as it drives past blowing embers.

The confronting video, which was posted on Twitter last night, has since gone viral, attracting thousands of shares and comments.

The NSW RFS confirmed early this morning 112 fires are still raging in NSW.

Two South Coast blazes remain at emergency warning while six are categorised as "Watch and Act".

Total fire bans are in place for the Southern Slopes, Southern Ranges and Central Ranges today ahead of expected worsening conditions this weekend.

Tributes are flowing for volunteer firefighter and father-to-be Sam McPaul, who was killed fighting fires on the Victoria-NSW border on Monday evening.

The 28-year-old was killed on a property east of Albury after his truck was hit by winds described by on-scene crews as a “fire tornado”.

The 10-tonne truck was flipped on its roof and Mr McPaul died at the scene.

Mr McPaul and his wife Megan were expecting their first child in May after marrying in 2018.

Devastated friends and family have taken to social media to share moving tributes to Mr McPaul, who has been described as a "champion bloke" and a true "hero".

“We are all shattered and can’t believe that it is really true,” Brayden McPaul posted online.

The wife of Victorian man Patrick Salway who died defending his property alongside his father Robert has paid tribute to her "best friend" on social media.

The bodies of the 29-year-old and his 63-year-old father were discovered by Robert's wife yesterday.

The pair had stayed back to save the family home in Wandella, about 10km northwest of the gutted township of Cobargo.

Taking to Facebook yesterday, Renee Salway, who is pregnant with the couple's second child, posted a touching tribute to her husband.

"I love you now, I love you still, I always have and I always will. I will see you again Patrick, my best friend. Hope you are up there “fixing things in the stars tonight” 🌌 Love forever Harley & Me (Thank you everyone for your concern. We are broken) Goodnight."

The couple married in 2014 and already have a young son.

Seven emergency level fires continue to rage in Victoria, including six in the East Gippsland region and one in the north on the NSW border.

Four people remain unaccounted for in the East Gippsland with authorities fearing the worst.

A large number of tourists are stranded in Mallacoota after sheltering on a beach near the water.

The military has been deployed in Victoria, including two navy vessels assisting to evacuate those stuck in coastal areas.

Conditions have eased slightly overnight at the NSW south coast fire battleground due to lower temperatures, but crews are bracing for catastrophic conditions to return on Saturday.

At the moment more than 100 fires are still burning across the state with half uncontained and many out of control. Cobargo father and son Robert and Patrick Salway have been confirmed dead while an elderly man from Narooma is missing.

Two emergency-level fires on the Far South Coast have been downgraded to watch and act this morning, but tens of thousands of locals and holidaymakers are now stranded after being forced to flee with evacuation centres in towns like Bega full.

And telecommunications infrastructure throughout south coast is down, making firefighting efforts difficult.
