Australia v Pakistan second Test live - Day three at Adelaide Oval - The Sydney Morning Herald

DINNER: PAKISTAN 1-2

And that's dinner (or big tea to my colleagues who object to that term for the evening meal). The perfect start for Australia with Hazlewood getting the breakthrough after finally removing Yasir for an entertaining 113. The captain Azhar Ali will face the fourth ball of Hazlewood's second over of the innings when we return with his side needing 285 runs to make Australia bat again.

WICKET: IMAM UL-HAQ 0 (LBW Hazlewood) 1-2

Hazlewood gets Imam lbw from around the wicket. The odds are stacked against the bowler in this set-up but it's given by the umpire and Imam is right not to review it. It hits him in front of middle and off after swinging into the left-hander and is collecting the bails according to the ball-tracker. Outstanding start from Hazlewood.

Solid start

The metronome from north-west NSW is in full swing for Australia as Hazlewood begins with a maiden. Starc, on the other hand, is straying down leg against the left-handed Shaan, who picks him off for two off his legs to get Pakistan off the mark before Starc overcorrects the other way. Not a lot of questions being asked here but Hazlewood switches to around the wicket to Imam, also a leftie.

PAKISTAN'S SECOND INNINGS

Shaan Masood cops a beauty first up from Starc, who takes the day's second new ball. It's gone too far to catch the openers outside edge. Shaan leaves well and gets a thick inside edge onto his pad as he survives the maiden first over of the innings. Just the rest of today and two more days to go. Imam ul-Haq will face Hazlewood.

PAKISTAN ALL OUT FOR 302

Australia have enforced the follow-on after Yasir finally runs out of luck, skying a top edge to Lyon in the deep on the leg side. He's gone for 113 from 213, an incredible knock in the circumstances. Musa is stranded for an eventful 12 from 12 balls. Australia can't turn down the opportunity to take another new pink ball in overcast conditions and as the lights take over. Hazlewood is limbering up and it's Lyon who selects the new ball from the umpire's box.

Pakistan reach 300

Who would have thought they'd be here today? A single from that Lyon over takes Pakistan to 300 with the one wicket in hand. They trail by 289, the sort of number that might temp Australia to bat again. Yasir refuses to disappear, going aerial but finding the gaps to Cummins' annoyance.

Pakistan's defiant tail

Yasir is fearless. So seems Musa. Cummins drops a short one in and he doesn't even bother with the back foot, hitting him in front of square for four. Yasir then works one off his pads and exposes Musa to Cummins. But the youngster doesn't mind. He gets his eyes out of the road, swings for his life and collects another four. He has another go and misses, then gets some chat from Cummins. Pakistan now 9-299.  Remember when they were 6-89?

DROPPED CATCH

Labuschagne has dropped a sitter by his standards. Lyon beats Yasir in the bounce, gets the edge he wants and it loops straight to the short leg fielder. He has both hands in place with fingers to the sky but can't get hold of it. Musa then handles the spinner far better than his No.11 position would suggest.

Welcome to Test cricket

The records will show Musa's first ball faced as a batsman in Test cricket was hit for a boundary. The fact that it was a peach from Cummins that caught a thick edge and flew over the slips is a mere detail.

WICKET: ABBAS (Caught Warner, Bowled Cummins) 9-281

After Cummins gave Abbas a stare at the end of his last over, Yasir throws his mate into the firing line by taking a single from a short ball. No surprises for guessing what Cummins gives the tailender. A perfectly directed short ball that he still hasn't seen, the ball ballooning into the hands of Warner at gully.
