Jay Brogden: Second arrest over Airlie Beach cold case disappearance - NEWS.com.au

The disappearance of 21-year-old Jay Brogden had long baffled police.

For 12 years they followed leads to dead ends and got no closer to solving the mystery of what happened at Cannonvale — just over the hill from Airlie Beach — in April, 2007.

Frustrated, they erected a billboard on the side of the highway with Mr Brogden’s face and the offer of a $250,000 reward “for information leading to the conviction of the person or persons responsible”.

It was less than a month ago that the billboard went up, and since then Queensland Police have fielded plenty of calls and a number of new leads.

Last week, a 33-year-old man was extradited to Brisbane from Sydney for an unrelated stabbing incident in Airlie Beach in 2009.

Police have not revealed how he is linked to the disappearance and suspected murder of Mr Brogden but he is assisting police with their investigation.

He has not been charged in relation to Mr Brogden’s disappearance.

Detective Inspector Damien Hansen told media there are a number of other suspects in the ongoing murder investigation. Today, there was another arrest.

In a statement, Queensland Police Detectives from the Homicide Group said they will apply for the extradition of a Coffs Harbour man.

The 32-year-old used to live at Airlie Beach, according to police. He was charged by New South Wales police in relation to other matters.

A coroner in 2015 ruled Mr Brogden died as a result of foul play and referred the case to homicide detectives.

His body has never been found.

Anyone with information should contact Policelink on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1300 333 000.
