NSW man arrested after alleged crime spree - NEWS.com.au

A man remains behind bars after he allegedly led police on a number of pursuits and confronted a pregnant woman with two machetes at a Sydney fast food outlet.

Police say Joshua John Ventura, 29, was arrested at gunpoint on Friday night after he allegedly drove a stolen vehicle that collided with a police car at Gymea in Sydney's south.

It's alleged the dramatic arrest came after a number of pursuits were terminated over the way the 29-year-old was driving, and a series of threatening acts throughout the day.

Police claim one incident on Friday involved Ventura confronting a pregnant woman with two machetes at a Taren Point fast food outlet.

She wasn't injured and contacted police.

The incident was allegedly linked to an earlier one at Rockdale, in which a worksite manager was threatened with what appeared to be a firearm as he confronted a man changing a number plate on a vehicle.

It was after 6pm when officers allege they located Ventura driving the stolen vehicle in Sylvania, prompting a series of pursuits which were stopped for safety reasons.

Shortly after, he was involved in the collision with a police car in Gymea and arrested.

Ventura, who is from The Oaks, was charged with 11 offences including intimidation, driving while never licensed, resisting arrest, wielding a knife in a public place and possessing a prohibited drug.

He didn't apply for bail and it was formally refused during his first mention at Parramatta Bail Court on Saturday. He's next due to appear at Sutherland Local Court on March 5.
