Just days after the moon came out as wet, this weekend, she’s going to truly go off.
Yes, that’s right, there will be a full moon on Halloween night. But this isn’t a regular Halloween full moon; it’s a very special Halloween full moon. Witnessing a full moon on Halloween proper is fairly rare — it only happens every 19 years or so, and typically, only a few U.S. time zones get to see it at night. But what we’ll see on the 31st is even rarer: It’s a blue moon, meaning the second full moon in a single month, and it will be visible across the entire U.S. The last time every person in the country was able to look up into the sky on Halloween night and stand mesmerized beneath a glistening full moon was 1944. Truly, a lunar blessing.
Now perhaps you, like myself, are wondering how this remarkable occurrence might affect you, star-wise. In the expert opinion of astrologer Kirah Tabourn, who recently spoke to the Cut about what the planets have lined up for us leading up to the election, this full moon — which is in Taurus — will be “gnarly,” and may “shake things up in this way that you wouldn’t see coming.” Cool.
As for the full moon–Halloween conjunction, well, time will tell. You definitely should avoid crowded, indoor parties for public-health reasons. Also, just saying, it’s hard to imagine a more hazardous combination than a full moon (heightened emotions), costumes (which, by granting you relative anonymity, embolden you to be on your worst behavior), and alcohol. I’ll gladly wait until 2039, the next time we’ll have a full moon on Halloween, to see what sort of toxic reaction that produces.
