Man allegedly raped woman after they went on Bumble date

A MAN will front court tomorrow charged with allegedly sexually assaulting a woman he’d met on dating app Bumble.

A spokeswoman for NSW Police told news.com.au the assault was “quite a nasty one” and said police believed there might be other victims across Sydney.

Police allege the man, 37, and woman, 26, met on the app before agreeing to meet in the east Sydney suburb of Maroubra on January 30.

It’s alleged the 37-year-old man took the woman back to his unit on Boyce Rd, Maroubra where he then sexually assaulted her.

Police allege after the man sexually assaulted the woman, he drove her to Mascot Railway Station where she caught the train home and reported the incident to police.

A NSW Police spokeswoman said detectives believe Bumble wasn’t the only dating app the man was using and said they believe he was masquerading as a doctor.

The police spokeswoman said those clues would hopefully help other girls realise if they’d been in a similar situation.

“Following an extensive investigation, police attended a unit in Maroubra today and arrested the 37-year-old man,” NSW Police in a statement.

“He was taken to Maroubra Police Station and charged with indecent assault, aggravated sexual assault without consent, and hinder person executing crime scene.”

The man was refused bail and is expected to appear in Waverley Local Court tomorrow.
